The goal of BikeRaleigh is to make bicycling safer, more comfortable, and more convenient for people of all ages and abilities. BikeRaleigh’s strategy includes system planning, facility design, education, outreach, and encouragement. BikeRaleigh is the bicycle program under the City of Raleigh’s Office of Transportation Planning, also known as RaleighMoves.

It's that time of year again- WALKTOBER 2018! Join the City of Raleigh's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission for curated walking tours around Raleigh. Below are descriptions and links to each of the events.

North Carolina Museum of Art Garden Walk

Do not miss this fun and informative walk around the Museum Park conducted by NCMA Director of Planning, Design and the Museum Park, Dan Gottlieb.  Learn about the connection of art, people, nature, recreation and sustainable design while strolling the beautiful park and gardens and viewing its significant public art installations by international artists.

Shop Local Raleigh Walk

Get a head start on holiday shopping ideas, meet our shop owners, and find out where to get what you need as we window shop our way across downtown Raleigh.  Leave time after the walk to go back and browse your new favorite shops!

Connect Raleigh Lecture Series with Mark Fenton

Join the City of Raleigh and WakeMed for a lecture featuring Mark Fenton, a public health, planning, and transportation consultant/professor and former host of the PBS series America’s Walking. Mark will share easy steps that you can take to become more active and put your health first while living in an urban environment.

Sustainability Walk

Get in your  daily steps while discussing the Sustainability of Raleigh! Join us for about a two mile walk along the walking tour route designed by the Raleigh Office of Sustainability.  Raleigh is a 4-STAR community, known for excellence in sustainability.  We’ll learn about some of the fabulous architecture, public spaces and sustainability features of the city while discussing urban heat gain, stormwater run-off, and green roof strategies. Please Note: Please make sure to wear comfortable shoes and weather appropriate attire. A bottle of water is recommended.

Historic Oakwood Cemetery Tour

Conclude the Raleigh BPAC Walktober walking events with a guided tour of Historic Oakwood Cemetery! Oakwood Cemetery is close to downtown Raleigh and is home to many famous Raleigh and North Carolina citizens…and maybe a ghost or two! We’ll have a guided cemetery tour. After the tour, we will walk into the Historic Oakwood neighborhood and enjoy some of the Halloween Decorations. Bring your flashlights and wear reflective clothing for safe walking after dark! Please Note: This will be a 90 minute walk.

Night Ride

Crank Arm Wednesday Night Ride

Crank Arm Brewing Company, 319 W Davie St, Raleigh, NC 27601, USA

This is a weekly recurring no drop social ride that meets at Crank Arm Brewing. This is a chill ride with an average speed of 10MPH, a distance of 10 miles and 500 ft of elevation. It's suitable for all skill levels and bike types. 

  • Ride meets at 6:30PM and leaves at 7PM.
  • The ride is accompanied by sweeper and support to ensure the safety of participants.
  • Free pizza is provided by Crank Arm to attendees. 
  • Ride happens regardless of temperature, but is cancelled if it rains or snows during the ride.
