For the month of May, we'll be celebrating safe, fun and responsible bicycling in Raleigh! Whether you bike to work or school; ride to save money or time; pump those pedals to preserve your health or the environment; or simply to explore your community, National Bike Month is an opportunity to celebrate the unique power of the bicycle and the many reasons we ride.

On May 1st, we'll kick off Bike Month in Raleigh with our Capital City Ride from Chavis Park to the Capitol Grounds. This is will be a fun opportunity to ride and mingle with local officials, bike advocates and city employees with free light breakfast at the finale.

Raleigh is also hosting three locations of Bike to Work Day Pit Stops from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, May 15th. Stop by any of the locations for free light breakfast, safety inspections and bike swag.

Meet us at Benelux Cafe at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 17th for a fun brunch ride to learn more about Raleigh's bicycle discounts program: Bicycle Benefits! We'll stop at participating businesses along the way.

As a part of the on-going Tune Up, Raleigh campaign, we are featuring guest blog posts written by the great local bike shops partnering on our campaign. This post is provided by the awesome people at Oak City Cycling Project. Without their dedicated support of a bike-friendly Raleigh, we wouldn't be able to offer you a discount on your bike tune-up services to be ready to roll for spring! Visit the Tune Up, Raleigh page for more info and to download the coupon. Check out their advice on tuning up your bike below!

Reinvigorate your new year's resolution to commute by bike with the GoPerks rewards program! GoPerks is a new program by GoTriangle that lets you earn points towards prizes by tracking your daily commute online. Each day of smart commuting (by bike, bus, vanpool, carpool or foot) earns a point, and each point can be used towards entries into raffles for fun, food and good times across the Triangle at retailers such as the American Tobacco Campus, North Hills, Cameron Village, and the Streets at Southpoint. The program is free but there is more than $1,000 in prizes for smart commuters who track trips between January 1 and March 31, 2015. The more smart commute trips you track, the more you earn!
